MSEUF celebrates 77th Commencement Exercises

LUCENA CITY - The Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) celebrated its 77th Commencement Exercises at the University Gymnasium, June 25 and 28.

Two Summa Cum Laude, Ian Patrick V. Alcance, Bachelor of Science and Marine Transformation (BSMT), and Jhan Derille C. Unlayao, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), led the 983 graduates from Cluster 1. With 885 students from Cluster 2, the total number of graduates reached 1,868. Among the graduates, 13 received Magna Cum Laude, and 61 received Cum Laude honors across various academic programs.

Cluster 1 graduates hailed from the following colleges:

College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA): 74 graduates
College of Arts and Sciences (CAS): 1206 graduates
College of Business and Accountancy (CBA): 140 graduates
College of Criminal Justice and Criminology (CCJC): 237 graduates
College of Computing and Multimedia Studies (CCMS): 54 graduates
College of Education (CED): 68 graduates
College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (CITHM): 107 graduates
College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences (CNAHS): 46 graduates
College of Maritime Education (CME): 56 graduates
Institute of Graduate Studies and Research (IGSR): 85 graduates
Enverga Law School (ELS): 10 graduates

Moreover, Cluster 2 is composed of:

Ian Patrick V. Alcance, in his commencement address, emphasized the importance of education and being prepared in class. He shared his challenging journey as a student, particularly during his maritime affiliation with shipping lines abroad. Despite passing the board in MARINA, he faced personal hardships, including the passing of his father while he was at sea. Alcance also expressed his desire to mentor students in the College of Maritime Education, though he remains open to working abroad. He thanked his parents, friends, and instructors in college who served as his inspiration during his academic journey.

Meanwhile, Jhan Derille Unlayao, a farmer's son and a graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, addressed timely issues and the importance of the agricultural sector in his commencement address at Cluster 2. “When I was young, my father often said, ‘Son, study hard so you don't end up like me,’" Unlayao recounted. "His words and our life circumstances have opened my eyes to the harsh reality farmers face today. If we want to revive our agricultural sector, we need to change this misguided, stereotypical perception. So let us not underestimate the noble work of farming," said Unlayao.

Meanwhile, seven distinguished alumni were honored with the Most Distinguished Alumni awards following the Baccalaureate Services, Thanksgiving Mass, and the Oath of Membership of the candidates for graduation to the MSEUF Alumni Association. The awardees are:

PCOL Madeline D. Cacao, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, 1995 Cum Laude, for Public Service and Peace and Order Award.
Atty. Rachel Uy-San Juan, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, 2004 Magna Cum Laude, for Corporate Law and Accountancy Award.
Chery Villamarzo-David, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, 2001 Cum Laude, for Information Technology Award.
Jasmine Frago-Viray, Bachelor of Elementary Education, 1998, Master of Arts in Education, 1996, for Community Guidance and Counseling Award.
Engr. Guillermo M. Rago, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, 1981 Magna Cum Laude, Master’s in Business Administration, 1987, Master in Management – Engineering Management, 2011, for Educational Management and Engineering Award.
Dr. Melchor P. Avenilla, Bachelor of Science and Nursing, 2011, for Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Award.
Dr. Junaito A. Merle, Master of Arts in Education – School Administration, 1997, Doctor of Education – Educational Management, 2004, for Educational Management and Community Service Award.

SDG 4 – Quality Education. The commencement exercises celebrate the achievement of educational milestones by the graduates, emphasizing the importance of quality education and lifelong learning.
SDG 5 – Gender Equality. The recognition of distinguished alumni, including both men and women, underscores the progress toward achieving equality and empowering women in various professional fields.
SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth. The graduates, especially those in specialized fields like marine transportation, information technology, engineering, and nursing, contribute to economic growth and decent work opportunities.
SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities. The university’s efforts to provide education and recognize achievements across diverse fields and backgrounds contribute to reducing inequalities.
SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. The award given to PCOL Madeline D. Cacao for Public Service and Peace and Order highlights the importance of promoting peaceful and inclusive societies.
SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals. The engagement of alumni and their contributions to various sectors demonstrate the importance of partnerships and collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals.
