48 students receive first 'Maroon and White Honor Scholarship' at MSEUF

VP Celso Jaballa

A total of 48 outstanding incoming freshmen have been recognized as the pioneering recipients of the Maroon and White Honor Scholarship (MWHS) at the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF), June 23.

This marked a significant milestone in the University's continuing mission to recognize academic excellence and nurture future leaders.

Held at the EMRC Main Function Hall, the orientation and awarding ceremony brought together university officials, proud parents, and the scholars themselves—beaming with pride as they received their Certificate of Scholarship and were officially welcomed into the Envergan academic community.

The Maroon and White Honor Scholarship is a competitive, merit-based program awarded to senior high school graduates based on their percentile rank in the university’s qualifying examination. The program offers three levels of tuition fee discounts:

  • The Top 10 qualifiers, dubbed the “Elite Circle,” receive 100% free tuition, miscellaneous, and auxiliary fees for the full duration of their academic program (four or five years), as long as they maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher with no failing or incomplete grades.
  • Scholars in the next tier receive a 100% tuition fee discount for one academic year.
  • Another group is granted a 50% tuition fee discount for one academic year.

Of the 48 successful examinees, 29 confirmed their enrollment for AY 2025-2026.

Seven of the ten highest-ranking examinees have officially enrolled and now enjoy full scholarships for their chosen programs:

  • Caperina, Mary Joy T. (Top 1 – Quezon Science High School)
  • Calayag, Latifa Jean R.
  • Chimchuen, Manie Q.
  • De Mesa, Ivan Lawrence P.
  • Detorio, Sophia Elleria A.
  • Escudero, Ella Rae A.
  • Luneta, Anielka P.

In her brief but heartfelt message, topnotcher Mary Joy T. Caperina expressed her overwhelming gratitude, sharing how the scholarship would enable her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology without financial burden. “This scholarship serves an opportunity to fulfill my dreams,” she said.
Meanwhile, nine students were granted 100% tuition fee discounts for one year:

  • Argosino, Eugine L.
  • Besilla, Ahyrssa Lor D.
  • Brocales, Ellysa O.
  • Mayor, Charbel Anne Khalin E.
  • Oabel, Primavera Janel B.
  • Pabellano, Jon Godwin G.

Dr. Benilda N. Villenas, OIC President/Executive Vice President, and Vice President for Academics and Research, delivered an inspiring welcome message, applauding the scholars for their hard work and encouraging them to stay committed to their academic journey.

With a touch of humor and sincerity, Celso D. Jaballa, Vice President for External Relations (VPER), reminded scholars that while the scholarship may cover fees, “it won’t cover tamad (laziness), so keep striving!”
He emphasized that the real challenge lies ahead, urging scholars to remain grounded, determined, and true to the values of the Maroon and White spirit.

The awarding of certificates was led by Vice President for Finance and University Treasurer Mr. Carlito M. Rodriguez, assisted by Mr. Rey Marco Casino from the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS). Their presence signified the university’s institutional support for its scholars—not only financially, but also morally and administratively.

The entire MWHS program was spearheaded by Ms. Maria Isabel D. Granada, Director of the Office of Scholarship & Endowment, Job Placement, and Alumni Relations (OSEJPAR), who served as the overall chairperson of the Maroon and White Scholarship Grant Committee. Under her leadership, the scholarship program was successfully launched with efficiency, integrity, and student-centered focus.

The MWHS scholars graduated with high or highest honors from a wide range of respected senior high schools, including Quezon National High School, Luis Palad Integrated High School, Mother Perpetua Parochial School, Silangang Malicboy National High School, Pagbilao National High School, Holy Rosary Catholic School, Lucena City National High School, and even MSEUF’s own senior high school.

The scholarship program is a testament to MSEUF’s commitment to quality, equity, and excellence in education, ensuring that academic brilliance is recognized and supported—regardless of background.

In the words of Oprah Winfrey, “Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.” With their achievements, the MWHS grantees have proven they have the strength. Now, with the full support of MSEUF, it’s time to turn that strength into success.
