MSEUF participates in National Privacy Awareness Week '25
MANILA, Philippines — Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF), represented by its Data Protection Officer, Engr. Katrina Ruth Avillo participated in this year’s Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) held on May 27–28, 2025, at Solaire Resort, Manila. Organized annually by the National Privacy Commission (NPC), PAW brings together data privacy leaders and advocates to address emerging issues and share best practices in protecting personal data.
The 2025 PAW emphasized the global and national significance of responsible data handling in an increasingly digital world. Key personalities present included NPC Commissioner Atty. John Henry D. Naga, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Hon. Henry Rhoel Aguda, and Deputy Privacy Commissioner Atty. Jose Amelito S. Belarmino II, among others. International delegates also joined the event, reinforcing the worldwide importance of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
One of the event’s most memorable moments came during Atty. Belarmino’s address, when he remarked, “In privacy, trust is acquired in drops but lost in a bucket.” His statement served as a strong reminder of the crucial role that data privacy plays in building institutional trust.
Panel discussions explored timely and complex themes, including the intersection of artificial intelligence and data privacy, the role of privacy in the modern workplace, and how evolving privacy laws shape global data processing.
The event also recognized institutions demonstrating excellence in privacy protection. SM Retail received the Privacy Management Program of the Year award, while 7-Eleven Corporation was honored with the Seal of Registration Award for their compliance and efforts in data governance.
Through Engr. Avillo’s attendance, MSEUF reaffirms its commitment to upholding data privacy and security, ensuring the university remains informed and compliant with national and global standards in safeguarding personal information.
