MSEUF strengthens water conservation through sustainable campus practices
Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation MSEUF continues to uphold its commitment to environmental stewardship through the full implementation of its Water Conservation Program, integrating sustainable practices across its campuses to ensure efficient and responsible water use.
Groundwater and rainwater utilization
MSEUF’s conservation program primarily focuses on utilizing groundwater and harvested rainwater for non-drinking purposes such as cleaning, washing, and maintaining campus vegetation. Since 2009, the University has operated an 11-cubic-meter rainwater tank located near the University Library and General Services Department shop. This system enables the institution to reduce reliance on commercial water sources and minimize utility costs.
Currently, about 60% of the total water consumption in the University is supplied by groundwater. To support this initiative, four deep wells have been established across the campus — in the Bee Farming area near the College of Criminal Justice and Criminology (CCJC), the College of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (CIHTM), the swimming pool area, and the College of Maritime Education. The groundwater system even supports the university’s Olympic-sized swimming pool, showcasing MSEUF’s innovation in resource efficiency.
Facilities promoting water efficiency
Complementing these water sources are in-ground water tanks strategically placed in different areas of the campus, including the CCJC, CIHTM, the swimming pool complex, and the College of Maritime Education. These tanks help regulate water use and storage, especially during dry months.
Additionally, MSEUF ensures the efficient use of potable water by maintaining 33 water drinking stations throughout the campus, all supplied by a local water concessionaire to guarantee safe drinking water for students and employees.
In line with sustainability goals, the University has installed water-efficient appliances in comfort rooms, such as automatic urinal flush controls, handwashing taps, and low-flow toilet flush systems. These innovations significantly reduce water wastage and promote conservation awareness among the Envergan community.
Upholding sustainability and social responsibility
The Water Conservation Program reflects MSEUF’s commitment to mindfulness and service, aligning with its mission to promote sustainable campus operations that benefit both people and the environment. Through continuous innovation and responsible resource management, the University reinforces its role as a model of environmental responsibility in the higher education sector.
