MSEUF Concert Singers win NAMCYA regional semifinals
MSEUF Concert Singers won the NAMCYA Southern Tagalog Regional Semifinals, securing a place in the NAMCYA Grand Finals through their performances of “Alleluia” and “Three Kalinga Chants," announced at the University Gymnasium, Sept. 21.
The Concert Singers will represent the Southern Tagalog Regions including Calabarzon and Bicol, alongside the De La Salle University Chorale–Dasmariñas in the Senior Choir Category.
Their performance of Jake Runestad’s “Alleluia” and Nilo Alcala’s “Three Kalinga Chants” captivated judges and the audience. “The artistry and discipline of the singers shone through, proving their readiness for the national stage,” said NAMCYA Artistic and Program Director Clement Acevedo during the awarding.
Other grand finalists included Sophia Ashley Presentacion Asor of Region V and Marina Lourdes Montaus Roxas of Region IV-A for the Children’s Solo Rondalla; Division of Tayabas City Rondalla and Ligao National High School Rondalla for the Junior Group Rondalla; and Sta. Teresa College Children’s Choir for the Children’s Choir.
Judges for the Senior and Children’s Choirs were Nilo Alcala, Anna Tabita Piquero, and Celger Venson. The Junior and Children’s Rondalla were evaluated by Ivar-Nicholas Fojas, Mary Catherine Trangco, and Mary Therese Pitogo.
The two-day event opened on Sept. 19 with a Traditional Music Workshop at the AEC Little Theater led by Amiel Kim Capitan. NAMCYA President Eusebio Tan and Administrative and Finance Director Robert Jayson Javellana attended the semifinals and worked closely with MSEUF Vice President for External Relations Celso Jaballa in hosting the Southern Tagalog Cluster.
The MSEUF Concert Singers performed under Choirmaster Trainer Hubert Loresto, with pianist Esperanza Maribao and adviser Maria Isabel Granada, director of the Office of Scholarships & Endowment, Job Placement and Alumni Relations.
MSEUF’s hosting reflected its continuing partnership with NAMCYA to promote arts and culture. In 2024, the university became the first recipient of NAMCYA’s Special Award for Exemplary Partnership at its 50th Anniversary Celebration at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila.
The victory highlights MSEUF’s commitment to transformative learning and excellence in the arts, giving students opportunities to showcase talent through national platforms. It also demonstrates the university’s culture of service and unity in advancing cultural heritage in the region.
