Sailing beyond dreams: The inspiring journey of Ian Patrick Alcance
Every voyage begins with a dream. For Ian Patrick Alcance, fondly known as “Sir Ian,” that dream was to conquer the seas as a proud Envergan seafarer. A graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation, Class of 2024, from the College of Maritime Education, he now sails under Starling, carrying not only his achievements but also the maroon and white spirit wherever he goes.
Shaped by Challenges, Guided by Lessons
Sir Ian’s journey was never easy. As a scholar, he faced countless waves of trials that tested his determination. But just like the sea molds a sailor, Enverga University shaped him into a resilient leader.
“My time at Enverga University genuinely put me to the test with waves of difficulties that molded my personality and strengthened my determination,” he shared. “Opportunities are like favorable winds, they can carry you far, but only if you work hard and adjust your sails with responsibility and perseverance.”
His years in the university were filled with rigorous training, simulator exercises, and leadership development. These did not just prepare him technically but also instilled humility, discipline, and teamwork—qualities that are crucial in the maritime industry.
Today, as he navigates the open waters, he proudly sails the maroon and white flag, proving that the lessons he gained at Enverga University continue to anchor his professional life.
A Triumph Etched in Memory
Of all his milestones, what Sir Ian treasures most was the day he delivered his valedictory address as a summa cum laude graduate. It was a bittersweet moment—triumph because he had overcome hardships, and pain because his late father, whom he deeply wished to make proud, was no longer there to witness it.
“I spoke not only for myself, but for him, and for my family who became my anchor, sacrificing so much so I could stay afloat and pursue my dream,” he recalled.
The camaraderie with friends, the long days of training, and the shared victories and struggles built memories that remain close to his heart. For him, Enverga University was not just a school but a family that taught him endurance, perseverance, and the true meaning of success.

Behind every voyage is a source of strength. For Sir Ian, his inspiration lies in his family, especially his late father who remains his compass in every milestone. He is also driven by his humble beginnings, reminding him that even the hardest starts can lead to the brightest horizons.
Through the scholarship granted by the university, he was able to turn a dream into reality—a story that many aspiring Envergans can take courage from.
