From Student Assistant to Registered Librarian: Marife Aguilar Finds Her Place Among Books and People

For Marife “Fe” Aguilar, some of the most important lessons at Enverga University were learned not only from books, but also from stepping beyond the familiar.

A Bachelor of Library and Information Science graduate from the College of Education, Class of 2026, Fe once described herself as an introvert who was not used to meeting and interacting with many people. Years later, she left Enverga University with more than a degree. She carried with her greater confidence, a sense of responsibility, and the professional preparation that helped her become a Registered Librarian.

Today, she serves as Library Staff at MSEUF Calauag Inc., beginning her professional journey within the Envergan community that helped shape her.

Turning Knowledge into a Profession

Library and Information Science goes far beyond managing shelves and books. It requires professionals who know how to organize information, connect people with reliable resources, and support learning in an increasingly information-rich world.

For Fe, Enverga University provided the foundation she needed to take on these responsibilities.

“My education at Enverga University gave me a strong foundation, especially with my program, Bachelor of Library and Information Science. It prepared me for the realities of the profession.”

Through academic activities, hands-on training, and practicum experiences, Fe developed both technical and interpersonal skills. More importantly, she gained the confidence and professionalism needed to pursue her chosen career.

That preparation eventually led to one of her proudest milestones: passing the Librarian Licensure Examination and becoming a Registered Librarian.

Her learning also continues beyond graduation. In 2026, she participated in the Society of Filipino Archivists’ SFA Lecture Series, “Archives for Justice: Rights, Memory and Futures,” reflecting her commitment to continued professional development.

The Student Assistant Who Found Her Confidence

While passing the licensure examination marked an important professional achievement, one of Fe’s most treasured Envergan memories began much earlier with her experience as a Student Assistant.

“As an introvert, hindi talaga ako yung tipo ng student na sanay na maraming nakakakilala or comfortable agad sa pakikisalamuha sa ibang tao.”

Becoming a Student Assistant changed that.

The role brought her into contact with different people and challenged her to communicate, take responsibility, and move beyond her comfort zone. Over time, people began to recognize her not only as a student but as someone they could depend on.

One experience particularly stayed with her. Students who wanted to become Student Assistants themselves began approaching Fe to ask about the program.

“I felt happy and overwhelmed knowing na somehow, I was able to help and even inspire other students.”

What started as a student opportunity became an important part of her personal transformation.

“It taught me how to communicate and work with different people, become more responsible, and most importantly, develop my confidence and leadership skills.”

The quiet student had found her voice.

Finding Purpose in Helping Others Find Information

Today, Fe brings those lessons into her work at MSEUF Calauag Inc.

For her, being a library professional is meaningful because even seemingly simple acts can make a difference in someone else’s learning.

“What inspires me the most in my professional journey ngayon is knowing that the work I do can make a difference, kahit sa mga simpleng bagay,” she said.

Whether she is helping students find the information they need or collaborating with teachers to provide useful resources, Fe sees her profession as an opportunity to serve.

She also embraces the continuous learning that comes with the job.

“Nakaka-inspire din yung thought na every day is an opportunity to learn something new, improve my skills, and become better at what I do.”

It is a mindset that reflects the Envergan value of excellence: never settling for what one already knows, but continuously seeking ways to grow and serve better.

From Envergan Student to Envergan Professional

There is something meaningful about Fe beginning her career within an MSEUF affiliate school.

The university that once gave her opportunities to learn, serve, and discover her confidence helped prepare her to do the same for another generation of learners.

Her journey from Student Assistant to Registered Librarian shows that growth does not always happen in one defining moment. Sometimes, it happens quietly through every responsibility accepted, every person helped, every challenge faced, and every opportunity taken.

Her Message to Envergans

Looking back on her college experience, Fe encourages current students not to rush through the journey, but to embrace everything it can teach them.

“Enjoy and make the most of your time in Enverga. Hindi magiging madali ang college journey. There will be challenges, failures, and moments when you will question yourself. But trust the process and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.”

She reminds students that uncomfortable experiences can sometimes lead to the greatest growth.

“Huwag kayong matakot mag-try ng new opportunities, meet different people, and discover what you are capable of. Do your best, stay responsible, and always be kind.”

And when the journey becomes difficult, Fe offers one final reminder:

“Remind yourself why you started. Darating din yung time na matatapos ang lahat, and you’ll look back and realize that every struggle, every late night, and every small achievement was worth it.”
