John Rover Sinag, web content and digital engagement officer of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, and Dexter Villamin, technical adviser sof The Luzonian, served as guest speakers during the journalism training-workshop of Polytechnic University of the Philippines Unisan on Oct. 27.
Sinag discussed “Layout and Page Design: From Concept to Published,” while Villamin discussed news writing essentials for the staffers of Kalilayan Newsette, the official college publication of PUP Unisan.
After the lecture, Sinag challenged the student journalists to apply their learning by producing a one-page newsletter.
“I know you know how to use the software now. The challenge for you is to apply the principles that we discussed so that you can come up with an engaging and effective page layout and design for your student readers,” Sinag said.
“As a former campus journalist myself, and as one of the technical advisers of our collegiate student publication, The Luzonian, it was nice to share with students who are eager and willing to learn,” he added.
The activity strengthened knowledge-sharing between campus publications and supported the development of student journalists through hands-on training in page design and news writing.
The engagement reflects MSEUF’s values of Service and Excellence by sharing expertise with student journalists from partner institutions. It also supports transformative and student-centered learning by helping young writers and layout artists improve their communication skills.
