Completed2014

Abstract

The objective of the study was to assess the personality profile of the administrative personnel to serve as basis for personnel enhancement development program. The study was conducted at Marinduque State College, Tanza, Boac, Marinduque involving purposive chosen 52 permanent employees and 32 support staff on job order basis. Descriptive research design was used to describe the personality profile of the respondents and other variables of this study. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Form G was used as instrument for the study. A self-made questionnaire was also used. Based on the findings, most of the respondents were female, married whose age ranged from 31-40 years old and permanent in their respective career. The dominant personality type of the administrative personnel is ISTJ (Introverted, Sensing with Thinking) which opposes the personality characteristics of what a public servant should be. Conversely, according to the Myers Briggs Type Indicator Manual, ESFJ (Extraverted Thinking with Sensing) personality types are best in a job that deal with people and provides services to people. Nevertheless, majority of the respondents have good interpersonal relationship with others, still productive, and have a feeling of self-worth in the organization although some of the characteristics of having good relationship, productive and sense of worth contradicts the characteristics of ISTJ personality type. Likewise, insufficient time to evaluate the documents of the applicants was the top most perceived organizational problem by the respondents in the organization. In view of the significant relationship between the personality profile and demographic information, age, birth order, and civil status have small to moderate correlation to their personality, whereas gender, highest educational attainment, position tenure, and status of employment less likely influenced the personality profile of the respondents. With this, it is recommended that inclusions of personality test in the hiring process be observed. Programs such as job rotation, coaching, mentoring, counseling, and other programs that will enhance employee’s potentials are also recommended to be included in the personnel enhancement development program. Similarly, regular appraisal of the employee’s performance and review of the salary and benefits are also suggested. Adding of interest test and achievement/proficiency test can also be helpful on the part of the Human Resource Management Office because this can predict if the person’s interest and ability matches his/her current job.
