Abstract

This research attempted to investigate teachers’ expectations and their experiences in relation to supervision of instruction. Using survey questionnaire (close and open-ended) and content analysis, the study tried to analyze supervision of instruction practices in public elementary schools. The data revealed that supervision of instruction in Polillo Island is more on checking, directing, monitoring and inspecting the process of learning. Class observation and school visitation are the most common practices in supervision of instruction and was done on a regular basis and unannounced. As to the attitude of supervising instruction, the school administrators were found approachable, advocate of change, optimistic and professional and ready to give feedback to his/her teachers. The new ideas or changes in instructional practices are brought about by attending seminars, trainings and workshops, use of information communication and technology (ICT) as well as by sharing and team teaching with colleagues. Cooperation and collaboration and harmonious relationship would also help improve supervision of instruction.
