DEVELOPMENT OF ONLINE RESERVATION AND BOOKING SYSTEM FOR STAR GARDEN TOWER HOTEL WITH EMAIL/SMS NOTIFICATION AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE APPROACH

Abstract

This study aimed to design and develop an online reservation and booking system that will enhance what Star Garden Tower Hotel can deliver to their customers, employees in terms of transactions and decision making. The system was designed using major phases of research and development and two phases of rapid application methodology. These two methodologies were used to ensure the quality of the system. Data gathering procedure of RAD was omitted and replaced by R&D since it is more compatible with the study. The system design was guided by Unified Modeling Language. The interface of the webpage was designed using CSS/HTML. The web application was developed using PHP which is running in Apache web server. The database used to store all transactions is MYSQL and the responsiveness of the system was built using Jquery. The online reservation and booking system has a backend and frontend interfaces. The frontend is used for booking and reservation transactions. The backend is used for processes which are handled by frontdesk user account which includes booking and/or reservation confirmation, creating new rooms, walk-in customer transactions, and generating of sales reports and performance graph. The system was evaluated and tested by different users consisting of 3 SGTH employees and 30 persons employed in different industries that are using online booking when accommodating a hotel. Based on the ISO 9126 standards, the tabulated responses of the evaluators and testers showed the system is highly acceptable.
