Completed2015

Abstract

This study on the development of intranet based voting application for St. Anne College Lucena aimed to design and develop a voting application that will give the students and Office of Student Affairs (OSA) personnel a new way of electoral procedures by giving more convenience. For the software methodology, the waterfall model was used in designing and developing the system while Unified Modeling Language was used to describe the functionality of the system. The system was developed using the following software tools: IIS for the web server, MSSQL for the database, HTML and CSS for the design, ASP.Net and JavaScript with JQuery Library for the coding process. The system was divided into two user accounts such as administrator and student. Managing electoral event, voter’s list, and list of candidates are the primary roles of the administrator while the student’s role will the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) concept to access the voting application. The software was evaluated based on ISO 25010 standards with the following criteria: functionality, reliability, operability, efficiency, security, compatibility, maintainability, and transferability. Overall, the proposed system was found highly acceptable by the end user in terms of these software standard criteria. It is recommended that the voting application be applied to the election event of the basic and secondary levels of SACLI and that the students receive their passcode through email address to vote anywhere especially when the students are conducting their on-the-job training outside the Philippines. Security should be taken into consideration and improve coding for the additional security features of the system. It is also recommended to set up the Internet Information Services (IIS) server to activate the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (https) and install firewall to tighten possible malicious attack or hacking of database or website.
