awareness on common sexually transmitted diseases of selected filipino seafarers in sampaloc quezon province
Area of Research
Abstract
Surveys were administered to fifty (50) Filipino seafarers living in Sampaloc, Quezon. We test their level of awareness of different sexually transmitted diseases. According to history, it is shown that seafarers have always been vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases. During the first voyage of Christopher Columbus to America (1492), his sailors had sex with Haitian women and they got infected, which they later brought to Europe. Attitudes, practices and behavior are the biggest factors that affect their relationship towards engaging sex. However, after analyzing the data, the results reveal that even though the sexually transmitted diseases are not that popular they are all extremely aware about the different kinds, mode of transmission, sign and symptoms, and damage to the victim’s body.
