MANAGING CULTURAL DIVERSITY AMONG MULTI-CULTURAL WORKFORCE IN ABU DHABI

Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the management of multicultural
workforce in educational institutions in Abu Dhabi. It focused on managing cultural diversity
to determine the multicultural competence of the workforce. The study employed scoping
questions to determine the management of diversity and cultural awareness of the
multicultural workforce. It used Jon Warner’s instrument to determine the level of diversity
and cultural awareness profile. Likewise, a focus group discussion was conducted to
derive additional data from the responses of the key informants. A manual for managing
multi-cultural workforce was then crafted to help overcome problems and challenges in the
workplace and enhance the management of cultural diversity.
Results revealed that the level of diversity and cultural awareness in the
organization was high. The popular dimensions of organizational culture were also
prevalent in the educational institutions and values and national cultures were highly
practiced. The handling of cultural relationship was also effective in the organization.
Overall, cultural diversity is highly managed in organizations at the United Arab Emirates.
