INFLUENCE OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR’S LEADERSHIP STYLE TO THE COMMITMENT AND PRODUCTIVITY OF SELECTED POLILLO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

Abstract

Leadership is the ability of an individual or a group of individuals to influence and guide followers or other members of an organization. School of today's organizations needs effective leaders who will understand the complexities of the rapidly changing global environment. The main objective of this study is to find out the influence of school administrator's leadership style to the commitment and productivity of selected Polillo elementary teachers in Polillo District. A total of 20 school administrators and 179 teachers were the respondents of this study. A descriptive survey design was used to analyze the data of this study. This study focused on the perception of teachers and school administrators on the three leadership styles such as; (1) authoritarian, (2) democratic and (3) laissez-faire. Results revealed that leadership style of school administrators as perceived by the teachers was laissez-faire however it was democratic in the perception of school administrators. The level of commitment and productivity of the teachers in Polillo District were on the high level and they agreed that leadership styles influence their commitment and productivity. Furthermore, this revealed that there is a significant relationship between school administrator’s leadership and commitment and productivity of teachers. These results were the basis for designing an action plan and development program for school administrator’s leadership style and teachers’ commitment and productivity.
