Completed2016

Abstract

This study sought to analyze the content of the Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) used by English Grade 9 students of St. Joseph Academy of Sariaya Quezon, a Dynamic Learning Program implementing school. Specifically, this sought to analyze the content of the Learning Targets or the objectives to be learned, the Activity Title or the subject matter to be taught, and the Activities. Also, this study identified the alignment of LAS to the competencies present in the K-12 Curriculum. The researcher’s favored method is content analysis. The researcher established a set of categories and then counted the number of instances that fall into each category to come up with the data. The researcher constructed a draft of the instrument and submitted to adviser for suggestions and improvements. The researcher searched for the information to be included in the coder’s sheet and guide. The researcher looked for the objective domains, levels of each domain, language skill, categories of activities in each language skill, and the competencies of English K- 12 Grade 9. The result shows that the LAS as a whole focus on the development of cognitive skills among the students accomplishing them. It is concern not merely with the practice of lower order thinking but as well as the higher order thinking. The sequencing of the LAS which is the simpleto-complex way which, just like in other studies, plays a significant role and can be of help to make the students absorb the content more easily, clearly and accurately. LAS contain activities intended to develop reading skills and writing skills among the students. There are varied types of activities for the students to accomplish in LAS. The LAS, although contain a well-crafted objectives and varied activities, are still lacking to address all the language arts domains and fully satisfy the expected competencies of the new curriculum. With these, the researcher crafted recommendations intended for the expert teachers, regular teachers, school administration, and future researchers.
