INVESTIGATING RANK AND STEP PROMOTION PROCESS IN THE PRIVATE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN BINAN, LAGUNA

Abstract

This study investigated the rank and step promotion process to the teachers’ performance in terms of demographic profile, service to the school, contribution to the academic community, professional growth and community involvement of the private educational institutions. The level of teacher’s performance was also determined in terms of content knowledge and pedagogy; learning environment; diversity of learners; curriculum planning; assessment and reporting; community linkages and professional development; and personal growth and professional development. Using the descriptive method of research, a survey was conducted among the teachers regardless of their position from the private schools in Biñan, Laguna who were chosen to answer the questionnaire. Frequency, percentage, weighted mean, T-test, ANOVA or F-test and Pearson R were used as the statistical treatment. Results revealed that most of the teacher respondents are female, married, 30 to 50 years of age with a bachelor ‘s degree and others earned units in the master's degree. They are regular teachers in the grade school and had been in the service for 5 to 45 years with a very good rating in their performance rating. The study showed that there is a significant effect on the rank and promotion process in the service the school, contribution to the academic community, professional growth and community involvement. There is no significant difference in the teacher's rank and step promotion when it comes to the demographic profile of the respondents. However, In terms of the teachers' level of performance, the respondents strongly agreed that content knowledge and pedagogy, learning environment, diversity of learners, curriculum planning, assessment and reporting, community linkages and professional engagement and personal growth and professional development have an effect on their rank and promotion step process. In addition, the service to the school, contribution to the academic community, professional growth and community involvement are significantly correlated with all the indicators of the teachers' level of performance. Hence, this recommends seminars and training for the teachers to further enhance creativity and innovations in teaching especially with the use of technology. The administrators should sustain and support the professional growth of the teachers in pursuing higher studies in graduate school for them to finish and enrich professional growth. Moreover, they should implement programs that will highly motivate and increase the level of satisfaction of the teachers in the institution. On the other hand, the Human Resource Development Office should review and revise the current performance evaluation for teachers and staff based on the study.
