DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF LOCALIZED INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR ENHANCING SKILLS OF GRADE FIVE PUPILS IN MATHEMATICS

Abstract

It has been a belief that Mathematics is a difficult subject. This negative impression influences the pupils’ appreciation and desire to learn the subject is the main goal of why the development and validation of localized instructional material in Mathematics 5 was made. The Research and Development type of research design was used to enable the collection of quantitative data from 287 pupils and 21 teachers who were sampled by means of stratified sampling. The study is guided by assessing the least learned topics in Mathematics 5, the development of localized instructional material and validation. The 27 least learned topics were the source of localized instructional materials extracted of the 46 topics of Mathematics 5. Among the twelve (12) indicators, illustrations used in each topic was considered very much valid. The timeliness, lesson inputs, presentation and clarity of the lessons in the developed instructional materials for mathematics 5 were also rated acceptable by the teacher-respondents.
