PROMOTIONAL STRATEGIES OF LIBRARY STAFF IN MANAGING DOST-STARBOOKS IN CALABARZON
Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the library staff who is in-charge in
managing the STARBOOKS with regards to their competencies, problems and
promotional strategies as the resource manager. The researcher developed a
promotional strategy that can be used by the Libraries in managing STARBOOKS in
CALABARZON. As the basis for developing the action plan for promotional strategies
of libraries in CALABARZON, the study looked into the demographic profile; the level
of competencies of library staff in managing STARBOOKS; problems of library staff in
promoting and managing STARBOOKS; the promotional strategies used by library
staff in managing STARBOOKS. As the basic structure of ideas that can be applied in
the formulation of the research output, the researcher used the Alter's model
framework for the concept and the theory of marketing mix, the big six theory, and the
principles of the five laws of library science was utilized for the theoretical framework.
The researcher used the Simple Random Sampling (SRS) technique in which the
questionnaire method was used in order to collect the data. Results show the respondents were dominantly female whose ages were twenty-one to thirty (21-30)
years old. Majority of the respondents are from regular term status; almost half of the
total respondents had been in the institutions under study for only five (5) years and
below. One-third (1/3) of respondents answered that the details of their designation of
work were not listed on the given choices, revealing that they are all teachers,
property custodian, faculty, and head of instructional and library resource services.
Eighty percent (80 %) are license librarians and teachers. more than a half of the
respondents are from public school libraries and most of them are from Quezon
Province. The respondents are confidently Advance with regards to their personal
competencies. They are more Proficient in their professional competencies in terms
of managing information services competencies, managing information tools and
technologies, and managing information organization competencies. Based on the
collected data, the respondents has a minor problem in the promotion and
management of the STARBOOKS. Majority of respondent are conducting library
orientation to strengthen the information literacy program by way of in-depth
discussion for user’s awareness.
