Annex 1 MARPOL 73/78: Compliance and Mechanisms Employed by Passenger Ships at Dalahican Port

Abstract
The need to promote prevention of oil pollution in the marine environment has driven the researchers to conduct descriptive research on the compliance and mechanisms employed by ships docking at Dalahican Port in Lucena City.
Data gathering was done in Dalahican Port, located at Barangay Dalahican, Lucena City where a total of 30 ship crews onboard thress 11-15 year-old passenger ships with 301-500 gross tonnage and are aware of Annex 1 answered the survey questionnaire. In terms of facility and equipment, mechanisms on board the ships for protecting the environment, the crews of the three ships surveyed complied with existing legal procedures and monitoring protocols and were compliant to the provisions of Annex 1 MarPol 73/78.
