Abstract

Monsour F. Bien, Alyssa Jane C. Hill, Sonny O. Mendoza, Albert Glenn E. Victa. “A Design of Four-Storey Noise Controlled Complex Building in Grand Central Terminal, Lucena City”, Unpublished Project Paper for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, College of Engineering and Technical Department, March 2015. The project study is about the design of a Four-Storey Noise Controlled Complex Building and has the following objectives: (a.) to design a four-storey noise controlled complex building; (b.) to develop plan details and layout of the designed building; and (c.) to prepare technical specifications, bill of materials, cost estimate and program of works of the designed building. The procedures followed by the researchers are as follows: (1.) Gathering data from different sources like books, journals, related studies, internet, etc.; (2.) Site investigation for finding the suitable location of the proposed project; (3.) Soil Analysis for finding the allowable soil pressure and soil properties needed in the design computations; (4.) Evaluation of acoustical materials to find the suitable materials for the purpose of the project which includes the analysis of properties of common construction materials; and (5.) Design procedures presented on UNIT IV of the manuscript including the design plan and drawings which is composed of the Architectural Plan, Structural Plan, Electrical and Plumbing. The structural design computations which are based on the NSCP 2010, Ultimate Strength Design (USD) Method, and National Building Code of the Philippines (NBC). The preparation of cost estimate and Bill of Materials by finding the quantity and type of materials and other services rendered for the construction of the building. The preparation of program of works presented using the PERT/CPM diagram and the preparation of technical specifications consulting the National Building Code of the Philippines (NBC) and local rules and regulation of the City of Lucena which includes the NOISE CONTROLLED COMPLEX BUILDING 13 technical specifications for the method of construction and the type of materials to be used for the construction of the Noise Controlled Complex Building. After collecting all the data needed in analyzing the structure, the Researchers found out that the structural components of the building are well designed and can carry the loads subjected to it and the materials used can reduce and regulate the noise inside the building. From findings, common construction materials like fiberglass, dry wall or gypsum board, glass, steel and mineral wool have their own acoustical properties that can help to regulate the noise inside the building. With this, the researchers highly recommend the construction of the Noise Controlled Complex Building in Lucena City for future use of the community and future development of studies related to noise control.
