Abstract
Erro Gil J. Fajarda, Reigh Anne E. Guevarra, Joseph Jerome L. Pornasdoro, Erika C. Rivera “A Design of Self-anchored Suspension Bridge in Quezon Province”, Unpublished Project Paper for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, College of Engineering and Technical Department, March 2015.
Lack of access to health care facilities, schools and markets is a great impediment. For
many communities in the developing world, alleviating rural isolation would help break the cycle
of poverty by providing access to educational opportunities, markets, medical clinics and other
basic services. The development of bridges are one of the most economical and suitable solutions
to rural isolation.
This study was guided by the objectives as follows: to design a self-anchored suspension
bridge; to prepare detailed plans and drawings of self-anchored suspension bridge, technical
specifications and program of works; to prepare and to evaluate the cost estimate and bill of
materials of a self-anchored suspension bridge.
The procedures followed by the researchers are as follows: (1.) Gathering data from
different sources like books, journals, related studies, internet, etc.; (2.) Site investigation for
finding the suitable location of the proposed project; (3.) Soil Analysis for finding the allowable
soil pressure and soil properties needed in the design computations; (4.) Evaluation of acoustical
materials to find the suitable materials for the purpose of the project which includes the analysis
of properties of common construction materials; and (5.) Design procedures presented on UNIT
IV of the manuscript including the design plan and drawings. The structural design computations
were are based on the NSCP 2010, Ultimate Strength Design (USD) Method, and DPWH
Standards. The preparation of cost estimate and Bill of Materials by finding the quantity and type
of materials and other services rendered for the construction of the bridge. The preparation of
program of works presented using the PERT/CPM diagram and the preparation of technical

specifications consulting the DPWH Standards for Highway and Bridges which includes the
technical specifications for the method of construction and the type of materials to be used for
the construction of the Self-Anchored Suspension Bridge.
After collecting all the data needed in analyzing the structure, the researchers found out
that the structural components of the bridge are well designed and can carry the loads subjected
to it.
With this, the researchers highly recommend the construction of the self-anchored
suspension bridge in Quezon Province for future use of the community and future development
of studies related to suspension bridge.
