Abstract

Rhaymundo Jr. A. de Jesus, Chris Darren A. Montenegro, Ron Benedict O. Paderez, Jose Norman O. Rodriguez. “A Design of Eight-Storey Mixed-use Building with Dampers in Lucena City”. Unpublished Project Study for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, March 2015. The study provided the design for mixed-use building with dampers which can withstand the tests of nature, earthquakes. The most notable distinctive feature of the output was in providing a design with dampers that goes beyond incorporating residential, retail and commercial functions. In order to control the vibration response of mixed-use building during seismic events, energy absorbing passive damping device was designed as the building?s salient feature for energy absorption. The design of the eight-storey mixed-use building with dampers was made in order to resist lateral forces that may occur in the structure during earthquake. A shake table was improvised to demonstrate possible ground motion. The design of structural members conformed to practical design approaches governed by various latest standards such as NSCP, ASEP, ACI, and AISC. Built-up sections were chosen as the most economical and efficient members to resist computed loadings of the structure. The prototype demonstrated good behavior during low, moderate and severe earthquake, enough to show that the design was safe, functioned as it was intended and that elastic movement was noted. Indeed, the prototype was a visual facility that demonstrates structure propagation response during earthquake.
