Empowering Sangguniang Kabataan for Youth Development: Unveiling Youth Contributions to Community

Completed2024

Abstract

This study examined the role of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in empowering youth and enhancing community participation in Barangay Isabang, Lucena City. While the research did not directly focus on crime prevention, it recognized that the SK’s activities contributed to community safety by fostering youth leadership and collaboration with local stakeholders. The study aimed to understand the SK’s responsibilities, its contributions to community development, its partnerships with barangay officials and law enforcement, and the challenges encountered in these collaborations. The study employed a descriptive research design, collecting data through structured surveys with SK members, barangay officials, and law enforcement personnel. Quantitative methods, such as frequency and weighted mean analysis, were used to interpret the data. The findings revealed that the SK actively participated in initiatives such as educational workshops, youth-led campaigns, and leadership development programs. Although these activities were not directly aimed at preventing crime, they provided a foundation for improving community relationships and fostering a safer and more organized environment. Limited resources and gaps in coordination were identified as challenges, but the SK demonstrated significant potential in promoting community cohesion and youth empowerment. The study concluded that the SK played a pivotal role in fostering youth engagement and leadership. While its initiatives were primarily centered on community development, they indirectly contributed to community safety by encouraging collaboration and addressing underlying social factors.
