POLICE VISIBILITY STRATEGY FOR SAFER NEIGHBORHOODS AS PART OF STRATEGIC INTERVENTIONS IN CRIME PREVENTION
Area of Research
Abstract
This research evaluated the effectiveness of police visibility strategies in enhancing
crime prevention in Lucena City, Philippines. The study aimed to assess how increased police
presence influenced residents' perceptions of safety, identify challenges affecting strategy
effectiveness, and explore limitations in their implementation. A quantitative approach was
employed, utilizing structured surveys distributed to a sample of 384 residents, selected through
proportional sampling to ensure representative data. The results revealed that common
strategies, such as foot patrols, mobile patrols, and community policing, positively impacted residents' sense of safety. However, the effectiveness of these strategies was often hindered by
inconsistent implementation, limited resources, and varying public perceptions. While increased
police visibility fostered trust and a sense of security, some residents expressed unease,
highlighting the need for more balanced approaches. The study concluded that to improve the
effectiveness of police visibility strategies, stronger community engagement through regular
communication and outreach programs is necessary. Ensuring equitable distribution of police
resources and addressing staffing gaps are essential for effective coverage across all areas.
Optimizing visibility strategies like checkpoints and patrols to be non-intrusive and efficient
would further enhance their impact. Based on these findings, the research recommended
prioritizing community engagement, addressing resource limitations, and optimizing police
visibility strategies. The final deliverables included a comprehensive report and an informative
infographic, providing actionable insights and policy recommendations aimed at improving
police visibility strategies and strengthening community-police relations.
