Completed2024

Abstract

Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain, is a systematic technique used by manufacturing as well as service organizations, (sort) segregating the wanted and unwanted items, (set in order) building a good workflow, (shine) clean and inspect the work area, (standardize) concerns the process management, and (sustain) consistently apply the 5S standards. It was implemented in educational institutes focusing on the better management of students, teaching and non- teaching members. This research delves into the implementation and awareness regarding to the Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain (5S) methodology within selected public schools. For this study, a quantitative research design utilizing survey questionnaires answered by 250 respondents composed of faculty members, students and school staff. It was employed to explore how public schools have adapted and applied the 5S principles to enhance operational processes, improve learning environments, and promote sustainability. Results revealed that the level of implementation across the 5S practices was generally high, particularly in the areas of sorting, organizing, and maintaining cleanliness. However, slightly lower levels were observed in standardizing procedures and sustaining long-term practices. The findings underscore the need for the continuous training, monitoring, and community engagement to strengthen the sustainability of the 5S practices in schools.
