A Proposed Urban Agriculture Complex Center

Completed2015

Abstract

The project proposal UACC (Urban Agriculture Complex Center) is a vertical farm with agriculture facilities with research and training centers relating to agriculture. It also included a food establishment that will serve organic food grown within the building as well as small studios or in-houses that will serve as home for the farmers and workers who will manage the agricultural center. The proposed project used eco-infrastructure and eco-aesthetic designs in the development of a sustainable building to ensure that its functions are to be more ecologically acceptable. This was designed to be more convenient where the ambiance was intended to be a healthy integration of inanimate and organic matter underpinning the building’s design and performance. Low energy devices and eco-gadgetry were integrated into the design which consists of biological recycling systems, building automation systems (e.g. sprinklers for the watering of crops and for the automatic opening of windows to allow ventilation and the reduction of relative humidity). The use of automatic controllers and computer controlled amenities served a major step forward to build an economically attractive crop production by implementing a modern design approach to the building. In addition, rain collector was included as the means for operating an alternative water resource. The use of scallop-shaped sun shades device was implemented into the design of the rainwater harvester for the storage and distribution of accumulated rainfall into the water tanks for the cultivation of crops and vegetation.
