Level of Awareness and Understanding of Muster List And Muster Station Utilization and its Perceived Effects on The Safety of Seafarers Onboard Ship

Completed2024

Abstract

his study looks into seafarers' awareness and understanding of muster lists and muster station use, as well as their perceived effects on ship safety. A thorough assessment of the literature on marine safety standards, including muster processes, reveals gaps in understanding and practice. Methodologically, a quantitative descriptive method approach integrating surveys and data gathering is used to gain insights from sailors who are just starting their on-the-job training (OJT) and experience levels. The researchers picked fifty (50) respondents at random from both BSMT and BSMARE. To save printing costs and go paperless, the research instrument was completed using the Google Forms platform. This research will be useful for future aspiring seafarers. Findings showed variable levels of awareness and comprehension of muster lists and stations, which are impacted by factors such as training quality, language difficulties, and cultural variations. Perceived implications for safety include both actual outcomes, such as emergency response time, and intangible variables. Targeted training sessions, multilingual materials, and specified procedures are proposed as methods for raising awareness and acceptance Finally, enhancing seafarers' knowledge and adherence to muster rules is crucial for increasing marine safety and decreasing dangers.
