Modification Design of Food Waste Shredder with Biogas Tank

Completed2024

Abstract

Food waste is an overlooked issue that is experienced in most communities, especially in food hubs as the MSEUF Central Canteen, and this is due to unavoidable excesses of food generated, such as left-over and unsold food. This becomes a problem in the locale due to its environmental impact such as odor and pest issues. Through this problem, the researchers provided a solution by creating a food waste shredder with a biogas tank. In line with this, this study sought to determine determine the factors affecting food waste shredding, create the mechanical layout of the machine, and design and fabricate a prototype. By applying mechanical principles in the process of creating the food waste shredder with a biogas tank, researchers came up with modifications to the machine that suit the types of food waste produced in the canteen, including sharpening of the rotary blades. As a result, the machine producing output is considered reliable, efficient, and effective. In the MSEUF Central Canteen, the machine effectively shreds food waste, such as plate leftovers and unsold food, and converts it to biogas. It is estimated that the food waste shredder with a biogas tank can process 997 kg/min.
