Seismic Evaluation of Sariaya Municipal Hall Building in Sariaya, Quezon: A Basis for Retrofitting Design

Completed2024

Abstract

Socioeconomic progress, driven by technological advancements and urbanization, has emphasized sustainable development. However, natural disasters pose a threat due to inadequate response and mitigation measures. Many nations suffer from these hazards due to lack of awareness and prepareness, increasing vulnerability and resulting in loss of life and property. Moreover, older structures may have poor design due to insufficient building codes and provisions, and most of the structures has configuration irregularities mostly for the purpose of aesthetics. In this study, the Sariaya Municipal Hall Building was analyzed to determine its current condition and its performance under seismic activity through the use of analytical methods and STERA 3d. Specifically, for the performance-based assessment, the study used the nonlinear static pushover analysis. Hence, the thorough inspection of the structure has brought to light the weawknesses in its current condition and the pressing need for preventative actions t o reduce possible dangers and strengthen the structure's defenses against seismic activity. Furthermore, the result of the study recommends the use of RC Jacketing for those visible structural members like columns, beams, and their joint. Wherein, if the mentioned method is not applicable, applying shear wall is also recommended.
