Abstract

This study aims to analyze maritime students' gender awareness, sensitivity, and responsiveness and utilize the findings to establish a comprehensive Gender and Development (GAD) Program within the College of Maritime Education. Recognizing the maritime industry's traditionally male-dominated nature , this study looks into the current conditions of gender-related knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors among students enrolled in maritime education. The study uses a quantitative method, collecting data using research questionnaires. The research intrument is intended to assess students' understanding of gender issues, sensitivity to various gender viewpoints, and responsiveness in incorporating gender considerations into maritime operations. The study must provide significant insights into the present gaps and strengths in gender awareness among maritime students. The findings will guide the development of targeted interventions and initiatitves to improve gender sensitivity and responsiveness among maritime students. Furthermore, the research lays the groundwork for creating a College of Maritime Education Gender and Development Program, which will encourage and industry demands Finally, this projects seeks to generate maritime professional who are not only technically proficient but also socially responsible and sensitive to the different requirements and viewpoints of the maritime industry. The data show no statistically significant difference between maritime students' ages and levels of inclusiveness. They also indicate no significant difference between the year level and the level of inclusion among maritime students. Finally, they show no significant difference in gender awareness, sensitivity, and responsiveness among maritime students. The recommendations highlight the importance of deepening research on inclusivity in maritime education, taking a holistic approach that considers diverse perspectives. Institutions should prioritize diversity and inclusion initiatives across all student levels, addressing specific challenges as they arise and continually evaluating inclusivity measures. Special attention should be given to fostering gender awareness and sensitivity through tailored curriculum revisions, training, and awareness campaigns. Overall, enhancing inclusivity enriches the educational experience and prepares students for the global maritime industry.
