EGURO: Free E-Learning Content Management System
Area of Research
Abstract
E-learning is where you can learn through various electronic media such as through Cd-rom or the Internet is growing rapidly and presents a great opportunity for spreading information and creating effective learning situations. This growth is driven by the need for and potential of providing education in less expensive ways, increased access to information, effective learning and greater flexibility. EGURO, a free e-learning content management system was develop in order to assist teacher and students on online learning, accessing information and learn through online for free anytime and anywhere. The proponents followed the object oriented analysis and design (OOAD) phases in developing the system. It was developed using web development tools such HTML, CSS, PHP, and MySQL. The researchers used the quality characteristics and sub characteristics of ISO9126 to evaluate an e-learning system, the first three characteristics (Functionality, Reliability and Usability) and the first sub-characteristic of Efficiency (Time Behavior) are easily assessable, whereas the remaining characteristics are difficult to measure except by trained IT professionals. After the development the system underwent evaluation using questionnaire based on ISO9126. Based on the evaluation results, the system is found to be acceptable as an e-learning system. EGURO got an “Excellent” overall rating from teacher respondents and “Very Good” overall rating from the student respondents.
