Abstract

This study determined the apprehension and difficulties of speaking English among maritime students. The paper focused on enhancing and including maritime-based communicative classroom activities. This study intended to teach future seafarers nad aspiring seafarers that speaking the English language is very important. It examined the use of the English language in classroom activities that will help them to be more efficient and will give them advantages for their future employment. This study also highlighted the difficulties of the maritime students of the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) in speaking English. It also helped them to enhance their skills in speaking English, which they can use in different classroom activities. This study identified the factors that hinder maritime students from speaking English in their classrooms. The researcher utilized a quantitative approach in this research;therefore, they were able to know the general perception of maritime students in MSEUF. Since it is a quantitative approach, the researchers gathered information from their respondents in order to find answers to their objectives. The researchers gathered different perceptions and opinions from maritime students using the survey they conducted. This study also focused on formulating and establishing programs that can enhance their knowledge of English. It also helped them to be more efficient and confident in speaking fluently using the English language inside the classroom. The programs that have been established enhanced their knowledge and also broaden their minds. This research determines that the challenges of maritime students face in speaking English, shows a widespread fear of judgement and unease about their language skills. While many students struggle with understanding core concepts during discussions, which makes it as barrier on their learning and ability to communicate effectively, effective oral communication is vital for both their academic success and future careers in the global maritime industry, making English fluency essential due to english language is the international language use by different seafarers to communicate. Additionally, the lack of resources and support, such as learning materials and English tutors, increases the challenges of the students. And factors like insufficient practice, fear of mistakes and being judge,and unfamilliar vocabulary further hinder their prociency and fluency in english speaking. So, Addressing this issues through better support systems and teaching strategies is very important for helping those students who wants to overcome their fears and improve their English speaking skills.
