Design of a Hybrid UPS System for the Zoleta Community Birthing Home

Completed2024

Abstract

The importance of electricity was obviously evident in the number of uses it has in our day-to-day activities. Medical facilities like hospitals, inns, and clinics need electricity to run efficiently and smoothly, but the country has been facing problems because the demand for electricity is growing fast, the supply of electricity is often short of demand, and there is a discrepancy in the electrification rate between cities and rural areas. PV systems are one of the most popular and in demand today. Some facilities do not just need a PV system to save money; facilities like Lying Inn need a PV system to have safer and continuous operations and consultation. So, the researcher came up with the idea of a hybrid UPS system. The design of this hybrid UPS system is composed of a solar panel, charge controller, battery, inverter, and UPS system that are systematically connected with each other to provide electricity to the loads. After researching and fabricating the component, the researchers went to the testing site. Since the clinic is operating and cannot be interrupted that easily, the only thing the admin can let the researchers borrow is the drop light. The researchers tested it, and it went on. Overall, after all the evaluation and fabrication, the researchers gathered all the data and information, and the post-survey results gave a satisfactory result of 4.89 Total weighted mean resulting to Strongly Agree in Functionality and Effectiveness, as the administrators and workers at the clinic liked the idea of designing a hybrid UPS system for their clinic, the Zoleta Community Birthing Home.
