Assessment on the Accident-Prone Areas in Lucena City: Basis for Accident Prevention Program
Area of Research
Abstract
Considering there have been more cars on the road in recent decades, there has been a noticeable increase in the frequency of accidents and prioritize segments that require safety improvement ( Sudiatmono & Santosa 2010). Two tactics in road safety jargon are meant to increase safety: traffic accident prevention and traffic accident mitigation. The objective of this research is to trace the accident-prone areas in Lucena City that may lead to community awareness of the accident area signage. This study adopted the combined approach of the latter theories: the Systems Theory and the Causal Accident Theory . The study used a descriptive design for the demographic profile of the respondents. In terms of the respondents' age, the mean score was 11.11, the years of driving were 20.00, and the data on common vehicles involved in the accident gained a 23.86 mean percentage. The researchers utilized the random sampling procedure to determine the number of responses from the Lucena City division of traffic enforcers that handled accident cases. Then, this study helped the researchers to develop an action plan for the enhancement of the accident prevention program implementation and a proposal for traffic signage installation.
