D.I.Y Hair Styling as Stress Coping Mechanism during the Pandemic

Abstract

The pandemic has a vast effect on the mental health of students at all levels. Many things are being taken away from them, distinctively in their psychosocial aspect. All human have their own ways of expressing their emotions, feelings, and the distress that they feel Not all people are aware of the defenses that they use when they are experiencing agony. We can observe that many students, specifically at the college level. They tend to do something to their home that somehow shows as the silent manifestation of their psychosocial state. In general, people tend to do things in their bodies that are driven by their emotions or by distress that they have to experience . In this study the participants will be the students of the College of Arts and Sciences at Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation - Lucena Campus. This is a case study. The study will also purposive sampling as a sampling method and a questionnaire as the research instrument. Therefore, this study aims to know if the student's psychosocial distress is silently manifesting by doing something to their hair. To identify what is the most common observable manifestation of the distress that they are experiencing. The researcher assumes that the psychosocial distress that the students are facing has something to do with their current hairstyle or to the color of their hair during this time of pandemic. The result of this paper can be beneficial to those in the academe, students or professors looking to create a new curriculum. This can be handy to the professionals that are in the field of Psychology, they can use it to create a new way of intervention to their clients or just for the supporting data for another study.
