FACE TO FACEBOOK: IMPACT OF FACEBOOK MESSENGER WORD EFFECTS ON THE USERS WRITTEN COMMUNICATION

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the impact of Facebook Messenger new features
specifically the word effects to the written communication of Filipino users as perceived by 18 to
25 years old residents of Lita Subdivision, Tayabas City, consists of three barangays, Lita
Phase-1, Lita Phase-2, and Lita Phase-3. This study identified the level of exposure of user to
the Facebook messenger, the common reasons of the selected respondents’ on choosing
Facebook Messenger as a tool for communication, the impact of Facebook Messenger’s new
features on users’ written communication in terms of connection with their family and friends.
The study used descriptive type of method and survey questionnaire to gather the data. The
respondent of this study is the 100 selected users ages 18 to 25 years old from Lita Subd.,
Tayabas City. The researcher uses Facebook messenger to communicate with the selected
respondents. The researcher also posts on Facebook to reach the other target respondents
from the nearby Barangay. The data collected through Google Forms is statistically analyzed
using the frequency, percentage, and weighted mean.
Results revealed that the users are using Facebook messenger in not less than an hour,
and for more than 8 hours of using Facebook messenger they utilized their smart phone and
laptop to communicate with their classmates, friends, and parents. Facebook messenger becomes their platforms for their everyday communication. Students are utilizing messenger to
updated in any school announcement and to send concerns and question to their professors.
Facebook messenger is an affordable messaging application that user use to connect with their
friends, do socialize, and update their other relatives. Facebook messenger lunch a new feature
that user is using in their everyday communication. Words effects make them to have an
exciting and fun-filled conversation with their friends and family. It also becomes a help that their
message is easy to be understood because of the floating emojis in every phrase that they are
sending. However, in each possible problem that they might encounter while using word effects
users are not sure on their response. There is a possibility that some of the users are
encountered some of this problem, but users are not too affected by this, and if there is some
issue exist the users just ignore it. They is also a possibility that the user are still wondering if
the word effects are the who has an issue or the application itself since that word effects is just
a feature or part of the messenger.
