Lived Experiences of Young Adults on Smart Shaming

Abstract
In this thesis, a narrative inquiry is presented that aims to delve into the smartshaming experiences of four individuals at Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation.
The study intends to scrutinize how shaming influences victims' academic performance,
self-esteem, social interactions, confidence and mental health.
Qualitative research was utilized in the form of semi-structured interviews and open
coding to collect and examine participant narratives. As per findings, participants
experienced negative emotions such as guilt, embarrassment and worthlessness which
impacted their lives holistically. However, growing confident and resilient has also been
discovered by participants who demonstrated to bullies something they could brag about. This study brings value by highlighting two often neglected effects of shame adding
important knowledge on shaming. Furthermore emphasizing an intervenion approach
empowering and assisting victims coping while recognizing their resilience and strength.
Narrative inquiry holds significance in investigating intricate experiences like
shame's impact on life being crucial as it shows consequences for policy, practice
theory with ideas further added for more research opportunities.
