Perceived Impact of K-pop Beauty Standards on the Self-Concept of Gen Z Fans

Abstract

This study aims to determine the perceived impact of K-pop Beauty Standards towards the Selfconcept of Generation Z. Specifically, to determine respondents demographic profile according to their sex, age, and the number of years of being a K-pop fan, to identify the most common traits of k-pop beauty standards according to the Gen Z K-pop fans, to examine the perceive impact of k-pop beauty standards on self-concept of gen z fans in terms of their physical, social, and emotional and lastly, the significant difference on the most common traits and perceived impact of k-pop beauty standards on self-concept grouped according to demographic profile. The study is a quantitative-descriptive approach in nature. The study utilized 3 parts self-made and structured questionnaire consisting of question which were based on the 4 objectives. This study also used online platforms to collect data like Google forms for the online survey. 150 Gen Z who reside Lucena City. To organize and analyze the data from the respondents, the researcher employed frequency and percentage in the first two objectives, the third objective applied weighted arithmitic mean. Finally, the fourth objective utilized Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman Rho. The results revealed that the majority of Gen Z respondents chose slim body as the most observed common trait. In terms of physical, the respondents have desired looking their best outside public. In regards to social, they want to look presentable when they interact to other people. Moreover, in terms of emotional, they tend to be subtle towards comments of other people. In terms of sex there is no significant difference while in terms of age and years there is a significant difference.
