Self-Diagnosis among Gen Z Students

Completed2023

Abstract

Self-diagnosis is the process of labeling a disorder based solely on one's ownbehavior without seeking a professional consultation (Ahmed & Vasudevan, 2017). People have always been interested in knowing themselves better, especially those living in the modern era. This quest for self-knowledge drives the fields of psychology. People fill in the gaps by going online because of the internet and the short amount of time that most people have to actually discuss health issues with their doctors. And self-diagnosis is conducted in a manner that makes students prone to misdiagnose themselves. The purpose of this study is to explore selfdiagnosis among GenZ Students, as well as its factors/causes, includingthe impact it has on their mental management. This study utilized the quantitaive approach of research and used the Descriptive Approach, the 3-part survey was consisted of the demographic profile of respondents, and two structured type questionnaire; the first one focused on the behavioral and emotional aspect of the respondents by using a self-structured questionnaire, the second part was to measure the perceived impact of self-diagnosis to the respondents which was also a self-structured questionnaire. The data collected were from respondents which consisted of 100 (n=100) students who are currently enrolled at Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation. The respondents were chosen by using the stratified random sampling. The surveys were transferred to google forms and sent out to respondents via Email or Facebook Messenger. The researcher designed the “Self-DiagnoSage: Nurturing Your Body, Mind, and Soul”, A Counseling Program for the proper usage of knowledge about mental health conditions. This program is to demonstrate the importance of employing psychopathology knowledge effectively. The program will improve the mental health of respondents and prevent them fromself-diagnosing incorrectly.
