DETERMINANTS OF NUMERACY RATE: BASIS FOR A DEVELOPMENT OF SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS NEED IN NUMERACY
Area of Research
Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the determinants of the numeracy rate of Grade 7
students in Cabay National High School to develop supplemental materials needs in
Numeracy. The study used a descriptive research design in conducting the study. This
study looked into the level of self-concept of the respondents towards numeracy
evaluate the learning materials as perceived by the students in terms of the designed
booklet and designed video lesson; their perception of the extent of usability of the
supplemental materials: and the significant relationship between self-concept and their
perception on the extent of usability of the supplemental materials. A standardized 50-
item Pretest Numeracy Test from the Division of Quezon was used to identify the least
learned competencies to develop the supplemental material. The study used a simple
random sample. The survey questionnaire and recorded interviews were used to gather
data. These were self-administered and conducted to the respondents of the selected
Grade 7 students in Cabay National High School. A structured interview guide was
followed by the researcher upon conducting the recorded interviews. The result of the
study revealed that the respondents had a high-level self-concept of numeracy. The respondents also strongly agreed with the evaluation of the designed booklet and
designed video lessons in terms of the content, instructional design, and technical
design. They also strongly agreed that the materials they used supplemented their
learning in numeracy. The student's perception of the extent of usability of the
supplemental materials and their level of self-concept towards numeracy has a
moderately strong positive relationship with all aspects of the materials. Furthermore,
there is a significant relationship between students' self-concept and their perception of
the extent of usability of the supplemental materials.
