EFFECT OF LOWERING CRIMINAL AGE LIABILITY IN THE REPORTED JUVENILE CASES IN LUCENA CITY

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the specific effects of lowering the criminal
age liability on reported juvenile cases in Lucena City, Philippines. The general
purpose of the study was to examine how this policy change impacted the
disciplinary actions and consequences faced by juveniles who committed offenses
against the constitution and laws of the country. Using a quantitative research
approach, the researchers employed a purposive sampling design to select seventy
(70) respondents from RAC DSWD Lucena City institution, known for its expertise in
handling juvenile cases. Data collection involved face-to-face interactions while adhering to COVID-19 protocols. The study revealed several salient findings. Firstly,
it identified the most common age group among juvenile offenders in Lucena City. It
also determined the common types of crimes committed by these juveniles and
assessed the frequency of these offenses. Furthermore, the relationship between
the age of offenders and the frequency of offenses was examined. Finally, the study
explored the connection between the lowering of the criminal age liability and
reported juvenile cases. Based on these findings, several recommendations were
proposed. Firstly, comprehensive awareness programs should be developed to
educate the youth about the legal consequences of their actions. Additionally, there
is a need to enhance rehabilitation and support services for juvenile offenders to
address their needs effectively. Furthermore, continuous monitoring and evaluation
of the policy on lowering the criminal age liability were advised to ensure its
effectiveness in addressing juvenile offenses in Lucena City. The major final output
of this study is the development of informative and visually engaging infographics or
brochures. These materials are designed to raise awareness among the people of
Lucena City, particularly the youth, about the implications of lowering the criminal
age liability. By disseminating this information, the study aims to contribute to a
better understanding of the consequences faced by juveniles and promote informed
decision-making in the community. In conclusion, this study provides specific insights
into the effects of lowering the criminal age liability on reported juvenile cases in
Lucena City, Philippines. The findings underscore the importance of comprehensive approaches to address juvenile offenses and emphasize the significance of
education and rehabilitation in the juvenile justice system. The developed
infographics or brochures serve as valuable tools for raising awareness and driving
positive change in the community.
