Work-Life Balance of Selected Elementary School Teachers in East District in the Context of Work-from-Home Set-Up
Area of Research
Abstract
This study aimed to know if the teachers who are working at home due to the pandemic can balance their work and life responsibilities since this is the new normal set-up and teachers are no exemption when it comes to this. The following purposes of the study; are to know the status of teachers in public educational institutions in balancing work and life responsibilities in terms of; time balance; involvement balance; and satisfaction balance. Also, to know the difficulties teachers are experiencing when they are working from home and lastly to know the strategies teachers employ to balance work and life responsibilities. This study utilized a quantitative descriptive approach and was conducted on 30 teachers in 1 locale. The necessary data were collected using a survey questionnaire that contains four parts. The sampling design that was used to perform this study is random sampling wherein respondents were randomly chosen to show that it is unbiased from its total population. The majority of the respondents agreed that even though they are working from home, they still tend to manage and do their responsibilities at home. That when they are assigned to do work from home, there is no such thing as “office hours” because they still stay up late at night just to finish their work load, and that teachers celebrate success or accomplishments be it big or small to keep them motivated and productive at work. An informative seminar that discusses how teachers could balance their work and life responsibilities could be of help. Also, providing teachers with enough fund support and allowances could help them especially when they are conducting classes or handing out modules or activity sheets.
