Perceptions of Senior High School Teachers on the Gamification of Activities in Earth and Life Science in the Selected Private Schools in Lucena City
Area of Research
Abstract
This study aimed to know the perception of senior high school teachers on the gamification of activities that mainly involves game dynamics, mechanics, and other game elements in Earth and Life Science including its effectiveness, acceptability, satisfaction, and challenges, especially in an E-learning environment. The researcher used purposive sampling to select (30) senior high school teachers that instruct Earth and Life Science from selected private schools. The data gathered is a quantitative view executed through survey questionnaires via Google Forms. The percentage formula and weighted mean are used as a statistical treatments to interpret the data gathered. The majority of the respondent's age ranges are 26-31 years old and females, with 4-7 years length of teaching, and graduates with Bachelor's Degree in Education. Teachers agree that gamification of activities in Earth and Life Science is effective and acceptable. The majority of the respondents are also satisfied with the benefits of gamification. The result concluded that gamification may be beneficial but still challenging to implement. It is recommended that principals should provide a seminar for teachers to enroll in their Master’s program. To improve the effectiveness and acceptability of gamification in Earth and Life Science, the school can use orientational programs that will help the teachers to know more about gamification. While providing them with efficient gamified resources and standardized implementation of gamified activities that can reduce the challenges of using it. Future researchers can also make a parallel study using other locales and with increased numbers of respondents.
