A PROPOSED DOGS REHABILITATION AND ADOPTION SHELTER

Completed2023

Abstract

The city's alarming number of stray dogs is responsible for many stray dog-related accidents and injuries. According to Jazul's research from 2018, the Department of Health (DOH) estimates that over 100,000 Filipinos are treated for dog bites each year, 200 to 300 people die from rabies each year, and fatalities from automobile accidents are the significant concerns caused by stray dogs. Numerous diseases can also be transmitted to humans, such as intestinal parasites in dogs, Filariasis, and skin diseases (Turner,2018). This issue raises concern for the community, which is why, according to REPUBLIC ACT No. 9482, any unclaimed or adopted dog will be euthanized if not claimed at a particular time. The project's purpose is to create a humane facility that will cater to stray dogs and rehabilitate them for adoption—providing a safe and comfortable place for stray dogs while maintaining the safety of the city from them. The Construction strategy of the project is focused on sustainability and cost-effective building. Strategies to achieve sustainability include passive design that maximizes natural elements of the site and less electricity use. Natural resources and the site's condition are used and incorporated into the design and materials to reduce the structure's environmental impact, whether as a result of energy-intensive manufacturing processes or lengthy transport distances (Ltd, 2021). The study will make a facility that benefits the community and promotes sustainable building designs.
