Abstract

Journal Writing help students and learners to write better and improve the skills they have and gives opportunities to write what they want to and freely express their feelings and thoughts and ideas they want to share (Tuan, 2010). The following is the purpose of the study the Journal Writing Skills of Grade 8 students the relevance of Journal Writing in the student’s education and the challenges faced by the students in writing Journals in Distance Learning. The study is a quantitative qualitative type of research or mixed methods Convergent Design: Questionnaire Variant. The researcher used purposive sampling and it was conducted in a Public City Highschool eighty five (85) respondents answered by survey questionnaire using Google form. Therefore, the findings of the study revealed that it's highly relevant to the student that journal writing is important for English learners because it improves their writing skills, creativity, and performance. And using Journal writing they can express their feelings experiences and personal life. In challenging the study find out the readiness of students, lack of exposure to books, vocabulary, and structures of sentences that got the high rank of 3.53. In the qualitative part of the research, the findings of the study reveal the different skills of students including the critical skills; the purpose of the study, awareness of the audience, collaboratively, and organizing. It was recommended the students participate in different activities related to writing and reading to enhance skills, and materials to practice to develop. The researcher's main output is a Learning packet consisting of a story, vocabulary, and reflection.
