Challenges Encountered by Selected Grade 7 Teachers and Students in Teaching and Learning Physical Fitness and Wellness in the Selected City High School in Lucena City

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the challenges encountered by selected grade 7 teachers and students in teaching and learning physical fitness and wellness in selected city high schools in Lucena city, in terms of emotional factors, delivery of lessons, instructional materials, and assessment of learning. Furthermore, the study also aimed to determine if there is no significant difference or there is a significant difference between the responses of the respondents. The method used in this study by the researcher is the quantitative research design which emphasizes the objective measurements and numerical analysis of data gathered from the respondents through printed survey questionnaires, the researcher used the t-test formula to determine if there is no significant difference or there is a significant difference between the responses of the teacher and students-respondents. Based on the gathered and interpreted data, the researcher concluded that the teachers that are teaching physical fitness and wellness during the pandemic up to the present are confident, inspired, and happy attending their classes. Also, the teachers doubted whether their students are learning from them, and the number of work-loads they have affect the level of their anxiety. Likewise, students that are currently studying physical fitness and wellness enjoyed and are inspired to attend their classes. The learning materials such as multimedia resources and printed learning materials used by teachers and students supported the teaching and learning process effectively, but some instructional materials had errors that confused the students. However, there was no significant difference between the responses of the two groups. Therefore, the researcher recommended that the school administrator should hire more teachers that teach physical education and for the teachers and students to attend seminars in which they can enrich their knowledge regarding physical fitness and wellness.
