Assessment of the Effectiveness of Online Information Literacy Program as Perceived by First-Year Students of the College of Education

Abstract
The research aimed to find out the effectiveness of the Online
Information Literacy Program perceived by 1st-year students of the College of
Education. A purposive sampling technique was utilized to gather information.
The respondents of this study were ninety-five (95) 1st-year students from the
different programs of the College of Education enrolled at MSEUF Lucena.
The researcher used a four-part structured type of questionnaire: demographic
profile in terms of age, gender, and program; perception of 1st-year students
of the College of Education of OILP in terms of library services, library
facilities, library resources, library personnel; level of effectiveness of
information literacy to the selected 1st-year students of the College of
Education after OILP. Results show that the respondents were mostly 18-19
years old, 69% are female, and mostly from Bachelor of Secondary Education
(BSED). It is also shown that in terms of library service, respondents strongly
agreed that the library has existing online resources. In terms of library
facilities, strongly agreed that the respondents know the safety protocol in every section. In library resources, the study shows that respondents agreed
that they know various websites provided by the library. In Library personnel,
respondents agreed that they know who will be asked and consult their
queries. After the OILP, respondents were enlightened on how to borrow and
return books. During the OILP, respondents strongly agreed that the speaker
didn't explain the presentation well. Overall, the findings of this study
concluded that Effectiveness of Online Information Literacy Program is
effective. Therefore, the study recommends that Enverga Library together with
faculty, librarians, and administrator should continue to strengthen Online
Information Literacy Program that will help students’ knowledge about library
services and resources. An enhancement plan was created as an output to
improve the online literacy program by addressing the challenges that they
encountered during the previous OILP.
