Traditional to Digital: Impact of Library Service Transformation to Librarians in Lucena City, Quezon

Abstract
This study determined the impact of library service transformation on librarians in
Lucena City, Quezon. A quantitative type of research method was utilized in gathering
information. This paper also examined its effects on the professional and personal
competencies of librarians. This is to know the improvements that the library
professionals experienced due to the continuous changes in the library. The respondents
of this study were library professionals in six (6) chosen libraries in Lucena City, Quezon.
This research used a four-part structured type of questionnaire: the demographic profile
of the librarians; the factors contributing to the transformation of traditional library
services to digital; the effects of library transformation, from traditional to digital, to
librarians’ professional and personal competency; and the perception of librarians about
the library service transformation from traditional to digital. Results show that the
respondents were mostly 31-40 years old, 85.71% are female, and 10 years above in
service. It also shows that one of the contributing factors in the transformation of library
services from traditional to digital is when library users start working at home because of
the pandemic. Library professionals enhancing their skills in using technology to cater
good library services online is one of the effects of library service transformation from
traditional to digital to librarian’s professional competency. While in the librarian’s
personal competency, the study showed that the love for library materials was shown as
they make the way of making all the materials available online. And the respondents strongly agree that digitization is one of the newest methods of managing information
resources in the new information age. Overall, the findings of this study concluded that
the transformation of traditional library services to digital has had a positive impact on
both librarians and library users. Therefore, the study recommends that libraries should
continue to invest in technology and digital services to provide efficient and accessible
services to their users, provide training and resources for librarians, collaborate with
other organizations, and improve communication and customer service. The research
findings will help the librarians in the digitization of library materials and their services.
