Perceived Effectiveness of Virtual Tour Approach in Teaching Organic Chemistry to Grade 9 Students at Selected Private Schools in Lucena City
Area of Research
Abstract
This study focused on determining the effectiveness of virtual tours as an
approach to teaching organic chemistry to grade 9 students during distance learning.
This study used a descriptive method of research and is conducted in selected
private schools in Lucena, City. The respondents are composed of thirty (30) grade 9
science teachers that are chosen using random sampling. The demographic profile of
the respondents reveals that in terms of age, 21-30 years old and 31-40 years old got
the highest percentage of both 43.3%, in sex, females got the 80% while males got
20%. As to civil status, married status got the highest percentage of 53.3%, in highest
educational attainment, Bachelor’s Degree got the highest percentage of 40%. In
teaching experience, 5-10 years got the highest percentage of 50%. The
effectiveness of applying the virtual tour approach in teaching organic chemistry to
grade 9 students overall weighted mean is 3.85 and a verbal interpretation of
effective, the factors affecting the effectiveness of the virtual tour approach in
teaching organic chemistry to grade 9 students show that respondents agreed with the weighted mean of 3.78. And in the challenges of applying the virtual tour
approach in teaching organic chemistry to grade 9 students, it has a total weighted
mean of 4.04 which means that the respondents agreed. Based on the findings, it
reveals that most of the respondents of this study were young and new in their
careers. It shows that the virtual tour approach is effective in teaching organic
chemistry since students today are very familiar with modern technology. Though it is
effective, there are lots of factors that teachers and students are facing in doing the
virtual tour approach since they are already used to traditionally doing experiments in
science, and adjusting to virtual teaching of organic chemistry is not easy. For future
researchers: Use a basis on how to choose a topic in organic chemistry that is
needed to focus on before experimenting, example are the report cards of the
students.
